Pushed far enough

Would Nephi have sufficiently compelled to kill Laban if he had not already had Laban seek to kill him and had an angel promise to deliver Laman into his hands? Without those experiences, the knowledge that the plates contained the law of Moses may not have been enough to convince him that killing Laban was the appointed way to obtain the plates.
