1 Nephi 2
Lehi is told that he is blessed for his obedience and that the people want to kill him. Then he is Commanded to leave.

This teaches a little about comfort zones. If Lehi had stayed in his comfort zone the people would not want to kill him, but he would not have been blessed. Also, we can see that adversity will come when we are obedient because Satan will try to stop us. If we don’t work for righteousness he will tempt us, if we do he will try to thwart us.

Lehi left obediently. He left his wealth and chose to take his two disobedient sons – he knew what was important: family.

After a 200 mile journey (according to scholars) Lehi’s first thought was to build an alter and offer thanks.

Lehi took every opportunity, as a father, to exhort his sons to be diligent in righteousness using the valley and the lake in his lesson.

Laman and Lemuel murmur and Lehi speaks with the power of the Spirit. Many times this power causes Laman and Lemuel to obey – from fear, not faith. Because they used fear instead of faith they never gained a testimony of what they did and so they never changed the course of the lives. Nephi prayed and asked God for knowledge. He used faith and it set his life on the straight and narrow course for the remainder of his days. Because of his faith he is given promises from God.
