Ammon and his brethren logically conclude that the people of Anti-Nephi-Lehi should go to the land of Zerahemla for protection. These converted Lamanites say they will go if the Lord confirms the idea. They offer to be slaves to the Nephites. When Ammon explains that slavery is outlawed among the Nephites he reverts to logic to convince them to go. Once again they insist on getting Heavenly confirmation before they go.
Did Ammon not feel the need for specific Heavenly confirmation because he was familiar enough with the ways of God that he knew this course would be a right choice?
