When the Gadianton judges accused Nephi to the people they only said “why do you not take him for his crimes” without articulating what those crimes might be. They didn’t want to call it any specific crime – preferring instead to let each person think up their own list of supposed crimes from which they could later draw. This tactic of being nonspecific when trying to store people up is a common tactic of the adversary because without specifics it is harder to examine the claims against the facts.
