When the people turn to material wealth and the praise if the world for their support then the Lord will withdraw His support from them so that they no longer have honorable and wise men to lead them.
Cussinga woman to lead is fine in principle but if we choose a woman simply because she is a woman we are no better if than if we choose a man simply because he is a man. It is the method of how we make shallow choices which is the problem more than the gender (or any other characteristic) which we are choosing as our measuring stick.
