In the days of Enos the Lamanites weren’t ready to listen to the pacing if the Nephites because the teachings of their fathers to hate the Nephites were too fresh in their minds. Over the course of generations that hatred would become less grounded in firsthand accounts but for now they were indicated by those who were direct participants in the history that they were sharing.
I wonder if that is the same influence that keeps Isaac from listening – I try to teach him when he is freshly entrenched in his defiance so no matter how reasonable I might be (and occasionally I’m not very reasonable) he is dead set against listening.
