Sometimes Jesus performed miracles that didn’t need to be performed – that is, He could have achieved the same function through means that would not be considered miraculous. I’m thinking of the way He miraculously provided bread and wine for the sacrament in the second day of His visit when He could have requested that someone bring it or have inspired some to bring these basic foods to the event. What is the lesson in His providing these things without involving anyone else?
My best guess at this point is to demonstrate the fact that He can do all things necessary for His work without telling on other people. We don’t participate in His work because He can’t do it without us. We participate in His work because our participation is part of the plan to draw us closer to Him and help us become more like Him.
