Right after a great victory whereby the Nephites were preserved because if their faith, Alma confides in Helaman that such will not always be the case. He has seen that the time will come when the people will abandon their faith and lose the protection which preserved them.
Alma wants the record to show that this was known centuries in advance but he doesn’t want that spread among them people.
