A man of perfect understanding

I wonder at the description of Moroni as a man of perfect understanding. Was that a reference to his understanding of the gospel of was it a reference to his ability to understand good people and their enemies perfectly to defend against aggressions? Perhaps it was a description of his ability to quickly assess and asimilate new knowledge. Whatever the case, he was the perfect man for his time.
