Jesus tells the disciples that any “who do more or lest than these things” are built on a sandy foundation. The question is, what are “these things”?
My reading of what He taught us that “these things” are remembering Him and keeping His commandments and signifying by covenant the commitments to always remember and follow Him. The first covenant is baptism. That is followed by the regularly repeated ordinance of the sacrament to renew the covenant to remember and follow Christ. Any who would add more to the path of discipleship beyond remembering Christ and keeping His commandments is venturing from the paved path of the rock to the sandy shoulder which brings danger.
