“Blessed are ye if ye have no disputations among you.” That sounds like a very clear bar against which to measure righteousness among the people. There may be things wrong among them but if they are not boiling over to disputations they are probably in a relatively good place. The people may be mostly righteous but if they let disputations arise among them they will head downhill quickly. That is why parents are commanded to teach their children not to quarrel.
