Bishop mentioned that he wasn’t going to make much of a distinction today between the blessings of fasting and the blessings of sabbath day observance. When he said that it struck me that sabbath day observance is a type of fasting – like lent, a fasting of refraining from secular and/or temporal activities.
It must have been easier to remember the captivity and slavery of their progenitors for a people who were accustomed to hard labor daily. When we make things easy for the rest of the week we make it harder to remember how the hand of the Lord is evident in our lives.
