The wicked husbandmen

The context of the parable of the wicked husbandmen is telling. The scribes asked Jesus about His authority and He asked them about the authority of John the Baptist. When they would not commit themselves to an answer He told them that He could give them no answer regarding His authority – clearly implying that His authority was like into John’s. Immediately He tells the story of the wicked husbandmen who are supposed to be carrying for the vineyard of their master while he is away but who rebel against his authority and refused to recognize it – as they have just refused to recognize the authority of John.
