Alma 18
Lamoni was already a spiritual person – that is why he believed that Ammon was the Great Spirit and not simply an expert fighter. In fact Lamoni was virtually preaching to his servants about the Great Spirit here – even if his information was not correct he was genuinely spiritual – that is why he received Ammon’s message so well when it was finally delivered. (I’m not trying to suggest that Ammon could have skipped the time as a servant – I think that served as a signal to Lamoni that Ammon was not looking down on him as a project to be fixed.) The injunction – in which he was addressed as Rabbanah – told Ammon that Lamoni had been informed of the incident at the waters of Sebus. Ammon probably spent the next hour contemplating what the king might be thinking and how the Lord would have him proceed.
