How often do we serve other gods?

As I read about the people of Israel I wonder how they could turn to other gods so quickly – doing exactly the opposite of what they were commanded and running they daughters in marriage to those who knew not the God of Israel. Then I wonder if the modern covenant people who live among many unbelievers are doing just as badly at mixing with them – not that interactions are bad but how often are we shooting their beliefs and practices – rationalizing against what we have been counseled. Perhaps we are no better than they were.
