The Grave Has No Victory

Mourning is one of the deepest expressions of our love. … The only way to take sorrow out of death is to take love out of life.

I never before considered that Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus worked together to take the body of Christ from the cross to the tomb.

“I imagine that the Lord allowed Mary Magdalene to grieve and then {He called to her and comforted her.}”

From the perspective of this talk grieving becomes a comforting process whether for those grieving or for those witnessing grief.

“Death is a necessary component of our eternal progress.” – President Nielson

“Irrespective of age, we mourn for those loved and lost. Mourning is one of the deepest expressions of pure love. …

“Moreover, we can’t fully appreciate joyful reunions later without tearful separations now. The only way to take sorrow out of death is to take love out of life.”

President Russell M. Nelson

Joseph of Arimathea begged Pilate to give him Jesus’s body. He took the body down, wrapped it in fine linen, laid it in his own new tomb, and rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre.

Nicodemus brought myrrh and aloes. He helped Joseph take the body and wrap it in linen with the spices.

Mary Magdalene and other women followed Joseph and Nicodemus, watched where they laid Jesus’s body, and prepared sweet spices and ointments to anoint it.

Different followers provided various services to the Savior but they were not necessarily all working together. Imagine the chaos, frustration, and terror they must have felt in that time.

I testify that “if Christ had not risen from the dead, or have broken the bands of death that the grave should have no victory, and that death should have no sting, there could have been no resurrection.

“But there is a resurrection, therefore the grave hath no victory, and the sting of death is swallowed up in Christ.

“He is the light and the life of the world; yea, a light that is endless, that can never be darkened; yea, and also a life which is endless, that there can be no more death.”

Jesus Christ Himself declared, “I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.”

I testify that through the redeeming Atonement and glorious Resurrection of Jesus Christ, broken hearts can be healed, anguish can become peace, and distress can become hope. He can embrace us in His arms of mercy, comforting, empowering, and healing each of us. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
