For the first time I realized a reason why knowing your genealogy would have been very useful in the days of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Knowing your lineage and the various lines from your formatters could help you know your relationships to the various influential people you meet in your travels as in that day there were as yet few lines of descent.
