Three witnesses

Jacob had the kind of witness to bar his testimony on. He heard that without the Atonement all mankind were lost. He saw (I assume in vision) that the Atonement was necessary. He also had the Holy Ghost testify to his heart that Christ and the appointment were fundamental and irreplaceable in the plan of salvation.
