And it came to pass that he began to cry unto the people, saying: Behold, I am guilty, and these men are spotless before God. And he began to plead for them from that time forth; but they reviled him, saying: Art thou also possessed with the devil? And they spit upon him, and cast him out from among them, and also all those who believed in the words which had been spoken by Alma and Amulek; and they cast them out, and sent men to cast stones at them.
Alma 14:7
Sometimes we can start a prices and then find that we can’t put the genie back in the bottle when we change our perspective and decide we were wrong. Zeezrom discovered that as did some Trump voters. Sadly many who reluctantly supported him fell prey to the lies and anger and have lost their way, ready now to energetically support him—despite how the danger he poses is even more clear—because their minds have been infected.
I bring this up not as political commentary but as a modern example of how an idea or choice can grow out of control like a wildfire and this why we must be ever cautious and vigilante about what we nurture or tolerate.
The people of Ammonihah had 4 months to decide if they would flee the city and join the believers or if they would persist in their unbelief. Hopefully some left during that time between when Alma and Amulek left the prison (12th day of the 10th month) and the time the city was destroyed by the Lamanites (5th day of the 2nd month).
