Faith to Act and Become

Effort is necessary to become a better disciple of Christ.

Acting is an essential key to becoming a better disciple of Christ.

Studying is an essential key in becoming a better disciple of Jesus Christ.

The judgement is not a sum of the things we have done but an acknowledgement of what we have become.

Last general conference, President Nelson said: “To do anything well requires effort. Becoming a true disciple of Jesus Christ is no exception.” President Nelson is inviting us to work hard to become better disciples of Jesus Christ. He told us that to become more like the Savior, we need to strengthen our faith by asking, acting, and studying, among other things.

  1. Asking through prayer is one of the keys to knowing how to become a better disciple of Jesus Christ.
    • We need to ask in faith to know the will of the Lord and accept that the Lord knows what is better for us.
  2. Acting is another essential key to becoming a better disciple of Jesus Christ. As we act, He will guide and direct us along the way.
  3. Studying is another essential key to becoming a better disciple of Jesus Christ.
    • Prayer and scripture study go hand in hand. They work together for our benefit.
  4. Many times answers to prayer will not come right away. But we must have faith to continue, act in righteousness, and be persistent.
    • Elder Richard G. Scott said: “Be thankful that sometimes God lets you struggle for a long time before that answer comes. That causes your faith to increase and your character to grow.”
    • Through prayer and scripture study, the Lord has always given me the strength to act and endure one more day, one more week, and to try one more time.
    • Elder Scott also said, “As you walk to the boundary of your understanding into the twilight of uncertainty, exercising faith, you will be led to find solutions you would not obtain otherwise.”

“The Final Judgment is not just an evaluation of a sum total of good and evil acts—what we have done. It is an acknowledgment of the final effect of our acts and thoughts—what we have become.”
