The remission of sins spoken of here sounds n0t unlike the evangelical concept of being “saved.” I guess the idea is one of a mighty change of heart, not that there are no mistakes made afterwards, but that the person views life differently and has a new relationship with Christ (before that time they wander and after they hold to the rod). I wonder if this all took place in one day (and night). This may well have been a process that started with a daylong prayer on a hunting expedition and continued through many days and nights of praying for the things which his new heart desired until he was prepared to give his time in preaching to the people.
