The fact that I read the section where the Lord clearly stated what His church would be called in the latter days is interesting in light of the things I read about offshoot organizations this morning. It became clear to me that the term “Mormon” had become synonymous with anything linked to the church—as much to apostate groups as to the organization still lead by prophets and apostles with Christ at the head.
It suddenly became clear to me why President Nelson was adamant that we use the correct revealed name. Mormonism as an academic term enveloping anything related to the organization founded based on the mission and calling of Joseph Smith is much different than the main attenuation underneath that academic umbrella term—namely the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
