We see the effect of the people repenting in the face of an existential threat—they drew closer together and closer to God as they weathered the threat and the established equitable laws in the aftermath.
On the other hand, we see the effect of pride as people were lifted up in division due to disparities in riches and opportunity to the point that they would brazenly conspire to overthrow the government.
I see our day as a time where we can choose if we will fight those seeking to destroy our Liberty or whether we will join them and abandon the truth we have known because of our pride or our hatred for those different from us.
