The point of our gospel study (at home with the family as much as at church) is to bring about conversation (which is an individual outcome) rather than indoctrination (which can be a group outcome).
Elder Bednar taught in a multi-stake training that we can’t fail because we have a member of the godhead who can be with us to help us to succeed. “Live your covenants and trust the Lord.”
Parents don’t always do things right and it’s okay for kids to recognize that fact and for parents to acknowledge that fact but even with that recognition children need to be deferential to their parents and treat their parents as the authority figure in the home and in public despite the fact that they aren’t perfect.
