Sister Ellie Vargason reminded us that President Nelson said the name of the church is non-negotiable. Jesus Christ said “for thus shall my church be called…” This makes me think that this principle illustrates how was mortals we can so easily stray. Christ was completely clear from the days of Joseph Smith what the name of the church would be and despite that we as a church—up to and including our most senior leaders—accepted and embraced the name “Mormon” for decades to identify the church.
Brother Bret Vargason quoted President Nelson(?) saying that we are sanctified through sacrifice.
President Scott Livingston: Ward buildings will be hosting 4 wards consistently (the church is planning to build fewer buildings than they have in the past). Starting in January we will be meeting in the mahogany building @ 10:30 AM
A question he has been asked to consider for a meeting he will be going to with stake presidents etc: “what effect has the spiritual pandemic had on me and on my family (and on my stake for the meeting)?” For now at least I have lost Isaac and Mariah from the church which I may not have lost without this. (I think I would have lost Alyssa at least temporarily either way.)
President Doug Perry told the following true story: a vet sees a dog in the exam room looking terrible. The dog was named Cholo. A week earlier he had been hit by a car. He was in such bad shape that the family had someone put the dog to sleep by shooting him 5 times to put him out of his misery and burying him in a shallow grave in the desert. Somehow he made his way back home. “Cholo set a new standard for bad days—compared to him I’ve never had a bad day.”
Will we be different in April because of what we experienced from October conference? (this includes experience listening live but also experience studying later)
Fasting once a month may be enough for a month and two hours of church each week may be enough for a week but we need to make time each day for the Lord.
