Emotional Self-reliance

Sister Amy Jones: The church website now has material on emotional self reliance/emotional resilience. That’s cool. I wonder if there is anything there on awareness of those around you to recognize those who are overwhelmed.

“I think Laman and Lemuel get a bad rap because I relate to them—if I had been taken away from everything I knew and then my dad told me I needed to go back and get something then if be upset too.”

She’s right that we do ourselves a disservice if we just look at them as “the bad guys.”

Brother Matt Rees: tells the story of Earnest Shackleton. It makes me think that everyone would benefit from thinking on their own lives and evaluating what degree of challenge they have faced. This is not to compare or complete with others. It is not too celebrate or denigrate or experience. It is simply to consider, appreciate, and learn from our own history.

5th Sunday topic this month was assigned by the Area Presidency.

Elder Christofferson: “We need to keep it simple, we can’t confuse busyness with spiritual growth and progress.”

Brother Doug Perry: “You can’t teach the gospel and touch hearts with the Spirit at the same time as people are feeling contention.”
