I like the description of covenants I’m the broader sense beyond simply religious settings. I especially like the description of a covenant as a relationship of truth.
A covenant is a relationship of trust.
When God invited Abraham to make a covenant He was inviting Abraham into a partnership where each would trust in what the other was doing. Abraham would trust that God was using His omnipotence and omniscience for the good of mankind including the good of Abraham and God would trust that Abraham was committed to pursue to the best of his ability the same outcomes that God has declared to be His aim.
For us to enter a covenant relationship with God we must be committed to earnestly strive for the things God wants to the best of our ability and because we cannot know all that God knows we have to trust that He is doing what is best even when we can’t see it. If we do not have that trust we cannot work effectively in the covenant relationship.
