Covenant Perspective

Sister Poague told the story of Sister Condi (which was shared in a recent general conference (Elder Christofferson)) after a natural disaster who was happy despite having lost their home and possessions because of her peace through her covenants. Hopefully we can teach our children to make covenants and feel that kind of peace through their covenants.

Brother Gary Heaton: I’m convinced that when people stop coming to church and taking the sacrament to renew they covenants their testimonies begin to falter.

Remember TTT/MHN (then, there, then; me, here, now) as a lens through which to evaluate the scriptures.

It appears that Abraham was the grandson of Shem based on what Brother Stevenson presented in Sunday School (which I think I would have noticed before). I want to verify that but if it’s true then Shem had a son who went after idols (likely several) but his grandson sought after the blessings of the fathers and received the priesthood and paid tithes to his righteous grandfather.

Genesis 11 gives the genealogy from Shem to Abraham. Shem was the great great great great great great great grandfather of Abraham (7 greats) and he also lived 230 years after Abraham was born so he outlived Abraham by 55 years. Still, when Abraham sought out “the blessings of the fathers” as a seeker of righteousness Shem was among the fathers Abraham was looking to.
