Israel choose to be ruled by a king. Saul had a humble heart when he was accounted then turned from the Lord. David lived only the Lord when he was anointed until he became slothful (although he repented). Solomon was meek in the beginning until he grew proud. Jeroboam was chosen of the Lord but he would abandon the worship of Jehovah out of fear that he would lose the people.
