Lamoni wanted to take Ammon up to meet his father but the Lord called Ammon to the land of Middoni. Little did Ammon or Lamoni know that Ammon would meet the father of Lamoni on the road to Middoni.
In a similar vein, the father of Lamoni wanted Ammon and his brethren to come see him. Eventually Aaron would come to him, but it wasn’t the way he had envisioned in inviting Ammon to come.
Also today it occurred to me that Lamoni must have thought the idea of killing Ammon was absurd, not only because of his love and respect for Ammon but because he knew that Ammon could not be killed by a man—that he was protected by God.
