Penance

When Ammon suggests to the king (not clear if that is Lamoni or Anti-Nephi-Lehi) that they should go to Zerahemla to escape being butchered by the remaining Lamanites (under the influence of the Amalekites) his response is that without an answer from the Lord they will stay and perish in their own land. I realized tonight that at least to some degree they viewed being slaughtered by their wicked brethren as a potential penance for their previous wickedness (before their conversation). That’s an incredible amount of faith but thankfully it doesn’t track with how the Lord operates when people repent (even though sometimes there is some residual consequence that may need to be endured).
