Why was Zechariah bringing good tidings to Jerusalem at that time? He was to call them to repentance and remind them that their fathers had ignored comparable calls to repentance so it doesn’t sound like these promises are based on their behavior. Rather, it seems that the Lord is making promises to demonstrate His faithfulness more than to reward theirs.
