2 Nephi 2
“Adam fell that men might be; and men are that they might have joy. And the Messiah cometh in the fullness of times that He may redeem the children of men from the fall.”

I simply cannot read verse 25 (the first sentence) without feeling that the statement is incomplete.
Verse 25 is like saying that our eternal progression is like saying that our eternal progression is “We lived in heaven with God before we were born and now we live as mortals.” The power of understanding our premortal existence is that it complements and confirms our post-mortal life.

The two progressions intersect like so:

  • We lived in heaven prior to mortality
    • Premortally we were on a level with all our brothers and sisters.
  • Now is the day of our mortal probation
    • Our status in mortality is affected by the choices we made premortally
    • Our mortal birth indicates that we accepted the plan of salvation
      • Adam fell that men might be.
      • Men are that they might have joy.
      • The Messiah cometh in the fullness of time that he may redeem the children of men from the fall.
  • We will live after mortality
    • Our post-mortal status will be determined by our choices from mortality
