Between death and the resurrection the souls of men inhabit paradise or prison based upon their righteousness. Those who were righteous are at peace with the lives they led and content to reap the rewards of their choices. They trust that their life after death will be peaceful. On the other hand, those who were wicked—who knew that their choices were immortal, unethical, selfish and wrong—will be terrified by the prospect of answering for their choices. There will be learning for people on both sides of that divide about what truly was right and what truly was wrong but there will be little if any feeling of guilt for wrong choices that were made in genuine ignorance of what the right choice was.
I think a lot of people will be surprised (in both directions) about who feels the peace of paradise in the spirit world and who bear the pounding pressure of spiritual prison on their conscience.
