The example of Diotrephes shows how people can fight against the truth because if their pride. Diotrephes refused to allow senior leaders of the church into the congregation where he was because he wanted to be the preeminent person—he wanted the people of the church in his area to look to him. It’s straight up priestcraft. In the modern church this action would be like a bishop who won’t allow the stake president or a member of the Seventy to speak in sacrament meeting. We don’t know how high of a church leader Diotrephes rejected, it might even have been an apostle. Regardless, these actions are blatantly arrogant and contrary to the actions of a servant of the Lord.
