A succes story

This morning Alex came asking me what the plan was for him to get his driver’s license. I told him he needed to study for and pass the exam for his permit before I could really do anything on that front. He interpreted that as me going back on my word and not helping him. He also wouldn’t acknowledge that he had done nothing except ask me what the plan was so he hasn’t done any more than me in moving it forward. It was not a positive interchange.

Later he texted me and reminded me that he had said in the beginning that he would need external motivation to get through the task. I asked him what he wanted me to do and he said that it would help if I were to remind him and follow up on his study. I told him I could do that.

I feel really good that Alex got past his frustration and was able to communicate his needs.
