As I started reading this morning I began receiving impressions about how/why the mind is able to convey so much information in dreams. To a large extent it is because it is capable of manipulating perceptions of time and magnitude which allows for more complete conceptions of concepts related to eternity and infinity—concepts that are too great to comprehend with our conscious mind.
After that I began noticing the pattern of how much Nephi wrote about the dream his father had compared to how much information Lehi obviously received and passed on to his family. It occurred to me that I would like to receive that kind of information relating to my life and my family—not a copy of Lehi’s dream but an eternal perspective on what the Lord has in store for us, how we are doing now (lots of room for improvement, I already know), where I should focus my efforts now, and what my next steps need to be. I feel that the Lord can and will give me that kind of direction if I prepare my mind and ask in faith—just as he did for Nephi.
