Making tools

We don’t think much about the time it took Nephi to make tools for building the ship. That was critical preparatory work for the larger project which he did on his own. I can only wonder how much he was learning through that process while everyone else was not involved. They would have observed some of what he was doing with probably no understanding of what he was working on. Eventually he progressed far enough in making tools that they recognized his intent to build a ship at which time they mocked him. I feel like I am at the tool-building stage of taking this family on the next phase of their journey to cross the great waters to the promised land. The question I don’t know yet is when it will turn from a solo project to a project with Laura and I together. It makes me wonder if Nephi’s wife knew what he was working on long before his brothers did. (I sure hope so.)
