“I will give thee to be a light unto the gentiles.” This is evidenced by Christian gentiles who take comfort in the words of Isaiah and his prophecies of Christ. Today it struck me that these same Christian gentiles (the movement and the organizations, not all the particular individuals) have blamed Jews for trusting in their heritage as children of the covenant and failing to recognize Christ while ironically they are trusting in the heritage of Christianity—wrapping themselves in Bible verses, proclaiming themselves to be saved, and overtly calling for us to be “a Christian nation”—while acting in very un-Christian ways and following people whose words and actions are blatantly and consistently contrary to the teachings of Christ.
The Jews took the name of Israel but failed to see, understand, and obey the God of Israel—thinking that being the lineage of Israel guaranteed the blessings of Israel without following in the path of the patriarchs who obtained the covenant—while these gentiles adopt the name of Christianity but fail to recognize, understand, and obey the teachings of Christ—thinking that citing Christianity as the justification for what they do guarantees that their actions are blessed/sanctioned by God.
