I understand the feeling that Nephi is expressing here. His frustration isn’t related to the gravity of the sins so much as it is the feeling of powerlessness. It’s along the lines of “my desires are righteous but I just can’t seem to act on those desires the way that I thought I could or would.”
I actually feel it lately as I have made some solid progress in cleaning up my environment but now feeling like I can’t find a way to take the next step. After the flood of insights and direction before I feel like I’m stuck in neutral now and I’m afraid I’m backsliding or at risk of backsliding.
