Avoiding leadership

We may assume that the Lord removed capable leaders from the people as a punishment (“the Lord of Hosts, doth take away…The mighty man…the man of war…the judge…the prophet…the prudent…the ancient…”) which is certainly sometimes true but it sounds like the leadership vacuum is mostly caused by those with the capacity to lead refusing to do so. (“be thou our ruler” … “make me not a leader.”)

Sometimes it is Pahoran I being displaced by the king-men or Pahoran II being killed by Kishkumen and other times it is Nephi the son of Helaman stepping down or Mormon refusing to lead in because the people were so wicked that they could not be governed righteously.
