The people of Alma had a different experience of bondage than the people of Limhi. The people of Alma had already repented before they came into physical bondage and they had already developed their trust in the Lord before their bondage began. This allowed them to be more patient with the experience from the beginning. It also meant that they learned the lessons of the experience much faster we have no details regarding how long their bondage lasted but we have every reason to believe that it didn’t last particularly long—I would be surprised if it was even a full year while we know that the people of Limhi were in bondage for several years. I personally suspect that it was a matter of several weeks but short enough that the people of Limhi didn’t get baptized in the land of Zerahemla before the people of Alma had also arrived under the rule of Mosiah.
