And now Ezra

Today just before I arrived home Bex called to tell me that Ezra had beat up Noah again. Bex informed us that she planned to call the police next time. I agreed with her although I felt that me calling the police after the fact when I wasn’t even there during the assault didn’t make sense. As Laura and I talked we decided to call Vantage Point to see if they had space for Ezra. They had space so we took him there to spend a couple of days under their rules. Obviously he wasn’t happy but he didn’t try to run away either. Sad to say, that now makes our 3rd son who has been in an institution after Enoch went to Vantage Point nearly 2 years ago and Alex has been in a mental hospital and a residential treatment facility within the last year.

Now we pray that Ezra will come back with even as much change as Enoch did—he was hardly a model citizen afterward but he toned down enough that he doesn’t fight with the ferocity that he and Ezra had that got him sent to Vantage Point. (He still fights with me that hard when I’ve had to restrain him but each time he has been disappointed to discover that he doesn’t have anything like the power he imagines himself to have.)

Tonight I read a talk by President Nelson from 2007 and it was interesting because I had just read a talk he gave in the same subject in 2019 and it was obvious how much more refined his understanding of the topic of repentance was with those extra 12 years of life behind him. It was a testament to how much even long-time apostles continue to grow in their gospel knowledge because of their discipleship.
