I look at our family and the number of children who have no faith and I realize that it is because our ground was basically barren—scorching in the heat of an extended drought. Thankfully we have been notifying it for a while already so I wouldn’t describe it as barren anymore but their ground is still barren. In some ways I’m happy that this has happened while our children are still at home because I think the odds of them finding their own faith are better because they will have time seeing us grow in the gospel and the fruits of the gospel. If they only discovered their barren tree after leaving the house they might be less likely to plant the seed in the future and try again.
