It occurred to me that the Gadianton Roberts had put themselves in a position where they could not reverse course and make peace with the Nephites on any terms. They couldn’t support themselves without plundering the Nephites and they had driven the Nephites into a defensive situation where they could never trust the robbers to change. By the time the robbers insisted on trying to disengage the neighbors surrounded them in their retreat so that all the robbers were either dead or captive.
I wonder if we will ever see a situation where one group places themselves in a situation where retreat or reversing course is no longer a viable option.
