Law vs Policy

It is too easy for people to get mixed up between eternal law and current policy. The law of obedience is an eternal element of the process of helping us achieve our eternal potential. The law of sacrifice is also eternal but people sometimes fail to understand that the law of sacrifice is different from the policy called the law of Moses which prescribes, among other things, detailed practices of animal sacrifice. That policy was only in place until the atonement of the Savior.

Likewise people today talk about the law of consecration as a thing we will eventually be expected to live. The fact is that we are to live that law now. They are thinking of a policy along the lines of the United Order which we are not presently expected to practice. The devotion of our time and resources in furtherance of building up the kingdom of God on the earth and for the establishment of Zion is always expected of covenant saints just as the sacrifice of a broken heart and a contrite spirit is always expected.
