3 Nephi 1
The Nephites had at least on member of the Gadiantons serve as their chief judge. Somehow they managed to appoint a just man to that position later. Perhaps that took place during their famine. Maybe they had a corrupt Chief Judge who died during that strife and famine and they had humbled themselves enough to appoint a decent man for a successor. Even with Lachoneus as their Chief Judge they managed to pass a law that all believers would be killed of the signs foretold by Samuel did not come by a set date.
This time was also when the younger generation among the Lamanites who had been converted by Nephi and Lehi started to come of age, and like the younger generation of Nephites who had been converted at the end of the reign of Benjamin, they were largely opposed to the faith of their parents.
