Helaman 9
It is amazing that the first people on the scene of the murdered judge were the five who came from Nephi’s garden. Except the servants who had gone to spread word of the murder among the people. Those servants should have been able to identify the five men as not being the murderers. In fact I wonder if some of the servants were in league with the murderer. If so they would naturally have encouraged the catching of anyone who people believed to be guilty. The judges who had been at Nephi’s garden were probably excited to see the five who had gone to check on his prophecy becaue it gave them an excuse to accuse Nephi. Other prophets, if not Nephi himself, have prayed “Oh God, how long wilt thou suffer this people to continue in sin?” The question is interesting when posed to the leading sinners “How long wilt the Lord suffer you to go on in sin?” I wonder if they accused him of wanting to convert them in order to regain the judgment seat. Doubtless, just being right about Seantum killing his brother would not have saved Nephi – only the fact that Seantum confessed while twice denying that Nephi had part in it.
