I think Moroni included the first episode of his father because we would need to understand the concept that repentance only applies to those who are accountable for their choices. The second episode was harder for me to understand its value to us. My belief is that it does us in detail how bad things can get and what it looks like for a people to be ripened for destruction—a reality we may eventually experience—and how righteous people can (and must) continue to operate in such an environment.
