“As oft as they repented”

Christ is the center of the gospel but the defining feature of His church is this statement that as often as the people of the church sincerely repented they were forgiven. That tells us an important characteristic of the plan of happiness—it is built around the premise that our weaknesses and shortcomings do not define us nor do they remove us from the path to salvation.

If they repented not, and confessed not, their names were blotted out, … But as oft as they repented and sought forgiveness, with real intent, they were forgiven.

Moroni 6:7-8

It should be noted that even if someone repented not and had their names blotted out they could repent and again take upon themselves the name of Christ through baptism and be numbered among them church.

Repentance is always an option.
